What Happens In The Room

Every ketamine infusion at Mind Spa is built inside three layers at the same time, designed to support comfort and reflection from the moment the infusion starts to the moment it ends.

Sight

Immersive visual content

A curated visual experience, designed to give you something to focus on and reflect on during the session.

Sound

Vibroacoustic therapy

Low-frequency sound delivered as vibration you feel through your body as well as hear, designed to promote a sense of calm.

Safety

Continuous clinical monitoring

Trained clinical staff track your blood pressure and other vitals for the whole infusion, and can slow or pause it at any point.

Your Session, Start To Finish

Here is how a ketamine visit at Mind Spa runs. Your provider tailors the details to you.

  1. Before your first infusion

    Evaluation and screening

A licensed psychiatric provider completes a full evaluation and screens for conditions that can make ketamine unsafe. No infusion is scheduled until that is done.

  2. On arrival

    Settle in

Staff check your vitals and place a small IV line.

  3. 60 to 90 minutes

    The infusion

A low dose of ketamine runs at a controlled rate, with the vibroacoustic therapy experience running alongside it. A temporary dreamlike or detached feeling, called dissociation, is common. Staff monitor you the entire time.

  4. After the infusion

    Come back gradually

The infusion ends, effects usually fade soon after, and staff check on you before you leave.

  5. Rest of the day

    Ride home

Someone else drives you home. No driving until the next day.

  6. Over 2 to 3 weeks

    Complete the series

The standard initial series is 6 infusions. Your provider decides with you whether follow-up infusions make sense.

The Experience Is Designed. The Medicine Is Clinical.

Here is what IV ketamine is, what it is not, and how Mind Spa keeps it safe.

What IV Ketamine Does

Ketamine acts on glutamate, the brain's most common signaling chemical, by blocking NMDA receptors (N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors, one of the receptor types glutamate acts on). This is a different mechanism from standard antidepressants.

Research associates ketamine with increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein involved in synaptic plasticity, the brain's ability to strengthen or weaken connections between nerve cells. Some patients notice changes sooner than with oral antidepressants. Others take longer or do not respond.

TreatmentFDA status
IV ketamine (Mind Spa)FDA-approved as an anesthetic. Used off-label for depression, PTSD, and anxiety.
Esketamine (Spravato) nasal sprayFDA-approved in 2019 for treatment-resistant depression, and later for depressive symptoms with acute suicidal thoughts or behavior.

Your provider will review the evidence, risks, and alternatives with you.

Who May Be A Good Fit For Ketamine

IV ketamine may be worth discussing with a provider if you are an adult and:

  • Depression has not improved after standard antidepressants
  • You live with PTSD or anxiety that standard treatment has not relieved
  • You want a plan that coordinates ketamine with therapy, TMS, or HBOT

Ketamine Had Been Studied In Controlled Trials

Randomized trials have studied IV ketamine for treatment-resistant depression and chronic PTSD.

Side Effects And Monitoring

Infusions use sub-anesthetic doses, far below the doses used for surgery. Common side effects during or shortly after an infusion include:

  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, or nausea
  • Dissociation, a temporary feeling of detachment or altered perception
  • A temporary rise in blood pressure, which staff monitor

Effects usually fade soon after the session. You cannot drive until the next day, so plan a ride home.

Who Ketamine May Not Fit

Your provider screens for conditions that can make ketamine unsafe or inappropriate, including:

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure or certain heart conditions
  • A history of psychosis
  • Active substance misuse
  • Pregnancy

Paying For Ketamine

IV ketamine for mental health is generally not covered by insurance as a standalone treatment, because it is used off-label. Current ketamine pricing is on our insurance and cost page, and we review every cost with you before treatment begins.

Colorado EMS professionals and their families can ask about Path4EMS, a grant program that covers $250 per ketamine session, up to $1,250 per family per year.

Ketamine Infusion Therapy FAQ

What makes a ketamine session at Mind Spa different?

Every infusion at Mind Spa is delivered as an immersive experience. Vibroacoustic therapy delivers low-frequency sound as vibration you feel through your body, and an immersive AI-generated art experience gives you something to focus on and reflect on. Both are designed to support comfort and reflection, and trained clinical staff monitor your vitals throughout.

Is IV ketamine FDA-approved for depression?

No. IV ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic and is used off-label for depression, PTSD, and anxiety. The only FDA-approved ketamine-based treatment for depression is esketamine (Spravato) nasal spray, for treatment-resistant depression and for depressive symptoms with acute suicidal thoughts or behavior. Your provider will review the evidence, risks, and alternatives with you.

How is IV ketamine different from Spravato?

Spravato is esketamine, a related form of ketamine, given as a nasal spray under FDA-approved rules. IV ketamine is given through a vein at a controlled rate and is used off-label. Mind Spa offers IV ketamine infusions.

What happens during a ketamine session?

Each infusion lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Trained clinical staff monitor your vitals throughout. Mind Spa pairs every infusion with vibroacoustic therapy, which uses low-frequency sound vibration, and an immersive AI-generated art experience, both designed to support comfort and reflection. You need a ride home afterward.

How many infusions will I need?

The standard initial series at Mind Spa is 6 infusions over 2 to 3 weeks. Your provider decides with you whether follow-up infusions make sense based on your response.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effects are lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, dissociation (a temporary feeling of detachment), and a temporary rise in blood pressure. Staff can give anti-nausea medication, pause the infusion, or adjust the rate. Effects usually fade soon after the session.

Is ketamine safe?

Ketamine has been used in hospital anesthesia for decades. At Mind Spa, infusions use sub-anesthetic doses with continuous monitoring, and your provider screens you before treatment to confirm ketamine is appropriate for you.

Can I drive after an infusion?

No. Plan for someone to drive you home, and do not drive until the next day.

Is ketamine covered by insurance?

IV ketamine for mental health is generally not covered as a standalone treatment because it is used off-label. Eligible TRICARE beneficiaries can ask about Inner Armor, and Colorado EMS professionals and their families can ask about Path4EMS. We review all costs with you before treatment begins.

How soon might I notice a difference?

Some patients notice changes within days, and others take longer or do not respond. Your provider tracks your progress with you. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

Should I keep taking my current medications?

Bring a full list of your medications to your evaluation. Your provider reviews them and tells you what to continue, since some medications can affect how ketamine works.

How do I get started?

Complete the new patient paperwork or call 303-327-0350. A licensed psychiatric provider completes a full evaluation before any infusion is scheduled.
